Are you passionate about art and culture? Do you have a keen interest in supporting emerging artists and fostering creative communities in the Netherlands and The Hague? If so, then The Balcony invites you to join us in our mission to create cross-generational exchange and enrich our cultural landscape.

About The Balcony:

The Balcony is a curatorial platform, soon becoming a foundation (stichting), geared towards the production of exhibitions based in The Hague. For the past six years, The Balcony has focused on supporting the production and presentation of upcoming practices with a focus on alternative formats of display, nurturing collaborations and cross-generational exchange. The Balcony curates 3 to 4 exhibitions yearly in The Hague as well as an extensive public and international program, opening conversations between the upcoming generation of artists, and the wider international scope of modern and twenty-first-century contemporary art. Our exhibitions aim to act as mirrors of today’s society, willing to be thought-provoking, and inviting of visitor’s involvement and commitment. We believe the most important thing is that viewers leave our exhibition space thinking “this matters to me”.

Opportunity:

We are currently seeking passionate individuals to join the (Supervisory) Board of our future Stichting. As a board member, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of The Balcony, contributing your expertise, insights, and enthusiasm to help us achieve our goals.

Responsibilities:

— Provide strategic guidance and oversight to support The Balcony's mission and objectives.
— Participate actively in board meetings, discussions, and decision-making processes.
— Contribute to fundraising efforts and resource development to ensure the organization's sustainability.
— Collaborate with fellow board members, staff, and stakeholders to strengthen our programs and initiatives.
— Serve as ambassadors for The Balcony, promoting our mission and engaging with the wider community.

Qualifications:

A genuine passion for the arts and a commitment to supporting emerging talent.
Experience in nonprofit governance, leadership, or relevant fields (such as arts administration, finance, marketing, or law).
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
A willingness to dedicate time, energy, and resources to advancing The Balcony's mission.

Involvement:

By applying you commit to take part in 4 board meetings a year.

By becoming a board member of The Balcony, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a discourse dealing with artistic conditions of creation, questioning the status of art practice(s), and developing formal and conceptual links between citizen and artist. Join us on The Balcony and help us in engaging audiences and artists in generative discussions about artistic production, fair practices, labour and economic sustainability, whilst cultivating a community of collaborators and cultural exchange at a local and national level.
